U.N. Presses Pakistan Over the Fate of Hundreds of Missing People

President Hamid Karzai sacks Helmand governor in blow to British influence

A key British ally in Afghanistan has been sacked by President Hamid Karzai in a sweeping shake-up of his provincial governors.

A western official said Gen Baloch was considered “rather too close to Sher Mohammad Akhunzada”.
Rafi Ferdous, of the government’s Office of Administrative Affairs, said Gen Baloch had “great working experience and efficiency in administrative affairs”.
