Experts; Pakistan had buried the nuclear waste in Helmand
and Kandahar.
Experts from environment
are saying that the government of Pakistan, after testing a nuclear bomb
in Baluchistan in the 1999-2001, at the time of the Taliban rule in Afghanistan
buried the nuclear waste
of the experiments in Helmand and Kandahar provinces of Afghanistan.
In the 1999 after Indian announced its nuclear capability
Pakistan also tested its unclear bomb in Chagi Baluchistan 30 km from Afghan border. The
Afghanistan experts and officials of the office of environment protection department
are saying that radiation from the Pakistan atomic bomb remained in the region
where Pakistan atomic bomb was tested.
Mohammad
Kazem Humayon, the president of national environment planning for the
office of the national environment
protection department, says Pakistan at the time of Taliban rule in
Afghanistan had taken opportunity from the friendly relation with the Taliban and
buried their nuclear waste in Helmand and Kandahar. He says, "The nuclear
waste buried in Afghanistan cost billions of dollars to make safe and Pakistan did
not have sufficient finances for the unclear waste safe keeping but to dump
them in Afghan soil.
Pakistan never allocated a budget for nuclear waste
management. Pakistan has not got resources to manage their nuclear wastage.
Pakistan has always dumped its nuclear waste in Afghan soil.
The atomic waste and left over from uranium researches are
very dangerous for environment and the animal. The nuclear waste are restored
in safe places that is far away from cities and places the places where nuclear
wastes kept are not suitable for animal
and human habitat.
Mr Farq Wardick a minister in Afghan government in an
interview with the Radio BBC Persian In 2007 when he was a minister for
parliament affair conformed that there are sites in Helmand, and Kandahar where
the Pakistanis have dumped their nuclear waste.
The Mr Wardick said there are evidences that confirming that the
Pakistani has dumped their nuclear waste. Sabah 8 newspaper could not able to
talk to the Mr wardick. The minister has turned down an interview request from Sbah
8 newspaper.
Three years ago some experts spoken about nuclear dumps that
Pakistan had buried between 1999 and 2001.
President karazi at that time issue the president order and selected
a committee of experts to use modern technology and expertise to investigate the
suspected avoidances and report to president.
The president order 2470 in 2007 read; there should be a
committee from Afghanistan nation defence, world community, international
atomic agencies to investigate suspected nuclear dumps site and impact of nuclear
radiation on environment and human health and in the same president order the
president tasked the committee using modern technology and expertise to find
out the nuclear radiation material impact on environment people health if there
is any. The president ordered a comprehensive research on environment and human
health.
The same president order read; selected committee should
present their report to Afghan president within 6 month.
President Karzai selected Dr Abdul Hay Habibi the current
head of Afghan nuclear energy’s head to chair committee of Pakistanis dumped
nuclear waste in Helmand and Kandahar and report to president within 6 months.
The Mr Humayon is saying that three years after the Pakistan
dumped nuclear waste in Afghanistan were debated and discussed among the
environment experts and government official, but till today there is no single
report has been published.
The Mr Humayon said the Afghan elites and
ministers have used the Pakistan nuclear waste on Afghan soil for political
points scoring. Some time a minister rise the nuclear dumped waste issue next
day either sacked from job or bribed elevated to higher position and the issue
of the Pakistan nuclear waste in afghan soil is suppressed.
The Dr Habibi the
head of Afghan nuclear said the report was presented to Afghan president and
denied the site of Pakistan nuclear dump in Afghanistan, he continued to say
the search for Pakistani nuclear is completed there is no further need for
investigation; but he admitted that his team search for the Pakistani nuclear
dump was confined to part of Helmand, the committee never investigated
Kandahar. The Dr Habibi said the Afghan nuclear exports are not qualified
therefore their assessment is not correct. But the Dr Habibi refused the name villages
his team have investigated.
Mr Gulam Mohammad
Malikyar and moeen Moslike from Afghanistan environment said to Sabah 8 news
paper that the Pakistani nuclear test near Afghan border (30KM) is illegal and has
negative impact on people and environment. The atomic bomb test has polluted
the environment.
On behalf of the Afghan environment department in 1999 I wrote a
letter to united Nation in that letter I stated that Pakistan should not
allowed to abuse it influence on Taliban and should not allowed to use weak
afghan government.
The Mr Gulem Mohammad said his department in Helmand was
part of selected committee set by the president to investigate the Pakistan’s
nuclear waste in Helmand, he said till now they have not succeeded and he is
not satisfied with investigation.
The Dr Habibi the Head of Afghan nuclear energy saying the
investigation has been completed there is no need for further investigation.
The Mr Humayon said that the afghan government doesn’t want to reopen
the investigation the afghan government doesn’t want to put responsibility on
Pakistan government. He said if the international laws should be followed the
Pakistan will be responsible for clean up and should compensate the people who
livelihood have been ruined either by atomic bomb test or nuclear waste.
The Sabah 8 newspaper asked Afghan president office for
comment, the president assistant spoke person syamak Harwy said he is not aware of
the issue and refers the reporter to different department. Mr Raffe Fardous says
there is no such thing I do not have any thing to say.
Mr Farmarz Tamanna the spoke person for the afghan foreign
ministry said he has no information on Pakistani nuclear waste dump, if that is
the true the afghan national interest will not allow us to highlight the
Pakistan nuclear waste dump in the Afghan soil.
Members of
parliament on the committee for environment and health refused to comment on
Pakistani nuclear waste dumps but they said the will try to put a light on the
issue.
Mr Assadullah Sadity says every one in government and
parliament aware of the Pakistan nuclear waste dumps on Afghan soil. He said
Afghanistan has border and government, why a foreign country against
international law, morality and international norm dump their nuclear waste
that kill human and animal, bird and damage environment for 1000 years.
The question is to why a government minister do not highlight
the issue, why the government block proper investigation, why the government
hide the truth from the Afghan people.
